RCS is enabled per account, from the user’s own attributes. One thing to get out of the way first: the account must be on Wallet credit type before RCS can be enabled. RCS rates are decimal amounts per country and message type, which the credit model does not handle.

Getting to the RCS tab

  1. Admin Panel > User Management > Users
  2. Open the account and click Edit (Update User Attributes).
  3. Open the RCS tab.

The tab is there even when RCS is not selected under Allowed Products on the Global tab.

Two ways to switch it on

If the account has no RCS attributes yet, the tab offers two buttons:

  • Allow as Sandbox: creates a sandbox RCS account for testing, and adds RCS under Allowed Products if it was missing.
  • Add as Normal User: creates a full live account, same Allowed Products behaviour.

You can also tick RCS under Allowed Products on the Global tab and save, which creates the attributes as a normal account.

When an account is in sandbox, a warning banner shows on the RCS tab, so you always know which mode you are looking at.

Start new customers in sandbox. They can build brands, bots and templates and see the panel working before any carrier traffic or cost is involved.

The fields that matter

Billing

  • RCS Billing Type and Payment Type: prepaid or postpaid.
  • RCS Balance, Credit Limit, Grace Limit: available credit and how far past it they may go.
  • RCS Rate: a default per message or per country rate override, where you use one.
  • SMS Reorder Point: the low balance alert threshold for the account.
  • RCS Account Type: the classification used for routing and reporting.

Product controls

  • Allow Sandbox: lets the customer use sandbox mode. It also depends on the global setting in RCS Settings.
  • Subscription Enabled and Expiry: the paid RCS subscription window. Expiry reminders follow what you set in RCS Settings.
  • Max Bots and Max Templates: caps on what the customer can create. Set these. An account with no cap will create forty test bots and then ask you why approvals are slow.
  • Status: active, pending or disabled for RCS on this account.

Click Save Changes. What you can see and edit here follows your admin role permissions for RCS attributes, and fields you have no read permission on show as Not Permitted.

Country rates in one go

Use Set up Country wise pricing on the same tab to add rates by country, bot and message type. Pick All Types to apply one rate to every message type for that country and bot in a single save. Existing combinations are left as they are, so you will not overwrite rates you set earlier.

Check these against your vendor cost before you save. A daily job compares the two and alerts you when a customer rate sits below vendor cost, but it is easier to get it right the first time.

After enabling

  • Add or review rates on RCS Users Pricing.
  • Watch for the customer’s brand and bot to appear under Content Management, since both need review before they can send.
