The 24-hour period after a customer sends a WhatsApp message during which businesses can freely exchange messages without template restrictions.
Why Conversation Window Matters
It is the rule that decides whether you may send a free-form message or must use a template. Inside the window you can reply conversationally; outside it, only an approved template can start the conversation again, which is why response speed directly affects what you are allowed to send.
How Conversation Window Works
The window opens, and resets, each time the customer sends a message to your number, and lasts 24 hours from their most recent message. While it is open, any message type is allowed. Once it closes, the next business-initiated message must be a template, and a customer reply reopens the window.
How SMPPCenter Uses This
SMPPCenter's WhatsApp channel works within this window: replies to customers inside it go out as free-form messages, and anything outside it is sent against an approved template.
