Delivery Receipt, the status update confirming whether a sent message actually reached the handset, was queued, or failed.

Why DLR Matters

Sending a message and knowing whether it arrived are two different guarantees. A DLR is what closes that loop, and it is what most billing, retry, and compliance logic in a messaging platform is built around.

How DLR Works

After a submit_sm, the SMSC tracks the message through the network and, once it reaches a final or intermediate state, sends a deliver_sm back to the ESME carrying that status: delivered, failed, expired, or undeliverable, along with a reason code where available.

How SMPPCenter Uses This

SMPPCenter reports DLRs back to you in real time via SMPP deliver_sm, or via a webhook callback if you integrate over the REST API, so your system always knows the true delivery state of every message.
